LAHU BASKET WEAVERS - THAILAND

The Lahu people are an ethnic minority who live in northern Thailand. I spent a month documenting the daily life of this family of basket weavers. They not only rely on the local forest to source bamboo for their craft, they also use it in the construction of their home. All their work is done by hand; the bamboo is harvested from the local forest, dried, shaved, split and then finally woven into baskets. This is not only labour intensive work, it is also dangerous, as the forest is home to many venomous snakes.
